DECOLONIAL FIMSCREENING

🖇️ This friday we will host a film screening!

The evening will be filled with movies about different regions and their historically as well as ongoing interconnection with colonialism. We will begin with four short movies and end with the documentary „Viva Palästina“. Between the films there will be time for discussion, two of the filmmakers will also be there to answer questions!

About the films:

Fragments of resistance - A remix mémoire by Shalima

It is a cinematic mash-up that moves between archive material, news images and film scenes - along the themes of structural violence, collective memory and cultural resistance.

At the centre are the questions: How does colonial and post-colonial violence inscribe itself into collective memories? How do anger, loss, fear - and hope - resonate in images, voices and music?

The film is not intended as an analysis, but as an emotional and political montage - an approach to the fragile spaces between fear and hope. It is also a personal way of transforming fear and pain into some form of resistance and hope.

In the Shadows of Modernization by Mohamed

Sudanese modern slaves in Saudi Arabia

The Nakba across generations by Nour

Through the story of a single family, THE NAKBA ACROSS GENERATIONS explores the lasting impact of the Nakba and the inherited trauma of exile. Blending personal narratives, historical events, and evocative elements like food, music, and archival material, the film examines how members of the Palestinian diaspora navigate identity and try to reconnect with their roots.

Nour is a Liberal Arts student at the University College in Freiburg. Born in France, she grew up between there and Jordan, shaped by a multicultural and multilingual environment that equipped her with valuable tools for adult life. Deeply passionate about art and photography, she chose to blend her cultural heritage with creative expression, resulting in an archival, personal film on the Nakba and the question of exile.

to make you listen by Luzie

Five Palestinians share about their experiences of what it means to be Palestinian living in Germany.

Viva Palästina. Reason of Resistance by Kamal El Salim

(60 min, English with english subtitels)

Set in Berlin, this documentary follows four activists navigating the Palestine solidarity movement and the escalating repression it faces, centering on the shutdown of the “Palästina Kongress.” From there, it turns to the city’s student movement and its role within a growing global struggle for expression and resistance. Underneath it all runs a deeper thread, how Germany’s unresolved history of fascism continues to shape its politics today.
