YOUTH is an album featuring a collection of memories, pictures and moods to be shared. It was very important for me to find the right combination of colours and a certain chemistry in the sound. I wanted a warm, silky and melodic even powerful sound. So I went for cello and double-bass, but what I had in mind was not a classic canonical bass sound. That was how I decided to involve Orazio for this project. Orazio is able to sing with the double-bass by obtaining a sound characteristic and cellistic at the same time, a very unique way of playing this amazing instrument that inspired lots of material of this album. The result is extremely exciting because cello and double-bass merge completely into a deeply homogeneous sound so that sometimes it is difficult to distinguish who plays what. YOUTH is also a story of a friendship glued to unforgetable moments shared at the time we were both students at Naples Conservatory. Anyway, this process of composing some music for us inspired me more music and so “Herbarium” and “Carveriana” came. The first, originally written per Violoncello Solo is inspired by a wonderful day I spent at the Botanical Garden in London; Carveriana” comes instead from my big passion for the great American poet Raymond Carver whose short-stories style influenced really much the structure of all the works performed in this album.
