Wir sind Sabina (sie/she) und Daniel (er/he), Tanz- und Theaterschaffende aus Zürich und wir haben vor vier Jahren gemeinsam das Künstler:innenkollektiv #BigDreams initiiert. #BigDreams setzt sich mit Mitteln der Performance gegen Rassismus im Justizsystem und den Medien ein.
Unser Workshop am Tattoocircus beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, wie die Strafjustiz in der Form von rituellen Prozessen in Erscheinung tritt: Würdevoll inszenierte Zeremonien mit klar definierten Symbolen reproduzieren die kollektiven Vorstellungen von Schuld und Sühne, Strafe und Wiedergutmachung, Wahrheit und Rechtsstaatlichkeit. So werden die Mechanismen der Macht umgedeutet zu Ritualen der Gerechtigkeit. Diese Prozesse der Repression und hegemonialer Herrschaft bedienen sich einer zeremoniellen Ästhetik und befriedigen damit unser Bedürfnis nach Zugehörigkeit und Transformation.
Um die Strafjustiz neu zu denken, müssen deshalb auch ihre Rituale neu gedacht werden. So widmen wir uns in diesem Workshop auch der Frage, wie Widerstand mit symbolischen, künstlerischen und ästhetischen Mitteln funktionieren kann.

Rituals - Performance and resistance against racism in the justice system and the media (#BigDreams aus Zürich)
We are Sabina (she/sie) and Daniel (he/er), dance and theater makers from Zurich, and four years ago we initiated the artist collective #BigDreams together. #BigDreams uses performance to combat racism in the justice system and the media.
Our workshop at the Tattoo Circus deals with the question of how criminal justice takes the form of ritual processes: Dignified ceremonies with clearly defined symbols reproduce the collective ideas of guilt and atonement, punishment and reparation, truth and the rule of law. In this way, the mechanisms of power are reinterpreted as rituals of justice. These processes of repression and hegemonic domination utilize a ceremonial aesthetic, satisfying our need for belonging and transformation.
In order to rethink criminal justice, its rituals must also be rethought. In this workshop, we will also address the question of how resistance can function with symbolic, artistic and aesthetic means.
