Through the event we aim to create a space to talk about concrete experiences of cancelling, silencing or discrimination for being vocal about Palestine. The chilling effects of attacks on academic freedom and the weaponisation of the accusation of anti-semitism have led not only to institutional censorship but also to self-censorship in the universities. In the light of genocide in Gaza and the war crimes and crimes against humanity by the Israeli state in a whole region, these dynamics of silencing make critical teaching and learning impossible.
We want to come together and share our experiences to foster networks of solidarity and resistance. None of us is alone with the experiences of silencing and self-censorship, and together we can open up a space for discussing, teaching, and researching Palestine at our universities in Freiburg.
