The Palestinian people have been resisting occupation, ethnic cleansing, settler colonialism, and genocide for over 78 years. In neighbouring Egypt, the Palestinian struggle for liberation has been a central point for many movements against the Egyptian state for decades.
What are the historical ties between the Palestinian struggle for liberation and Egyptian political movements? What has been the Egyptian state’s role in Palestine over the decades? Why is the Egyptian military dictatorship currently cracking down on Palestine solidarity and complicit in weapon delivery to Israel? How does Germany & the EU support the Egyptian dictatorship and what does this have to do with the genocide in Gaza? Can the Egyptian people play a role in the liberation of Palestine?
We are joined by Hossam el-Hamalawy. Hossam is an Egyptian journalist and socialist activist currently based in Berlin. He was among the 2011 Egyptian revolutionary organisers and a long time member in the Palestine solidarity movement.
The event is organized by Egypt Solidarity Movement (www.instagram.com/egypt_solidarity/) and Students for Palestine Freiburg (www.instagram.com/studentsforpalestine.fr/). The Egypt solidarity movement is a group of Egyptians active in solidarity with movements for national liberation and civil liberties. Students for Palestine Freiburg is an anti-colonial and anti-zionist university movement, aiming to amplify Palestinian and Arab voices.
Accessibility info: The room and toilets are wheelchair accessible. The event will be held in English with optional German and Arabic translation.
